OUR INQUIRY FOR TERM FOUR .... BIRDS OF A FEATHER
LATEST UPDATE - BIRD PODCASTS (Scroll down to listen in!)

BIG IDEA: The structures of a bird work together to help it survive.

SO WHAT? Science provides observation skills to help us draw logical conclusions about how living things in our everyday environments adapt and survive.

KEY UNDERSTANDINGS:

(1) We can usually tell where a bird lives and what sort of food it eats by looking at its beak, legs and feet.
(2) The size and shape of a bird’s structures are suited to the function they perform.

We have become bird experts this term. Using our creative, humorous, and imaginative selves, we wrote scripts for podcasts that would both entertain and inform. Listen in to the podcasts we have recorded - our very first ones!

To help us find out more about birds and to deepen our knowledge of the two key understanding we visited the aviary at the Dunedin Botanical Gardens and the Nature Gallery at the Otago Museum. Here are some photos of our learning in action. Look further down the page for photos of bird tables designed and made by Nat, Mitchell, Mathew, Kendra and Jade!
